Getting ready to
qualify for the National Open at Williams Grove 1983, the Gambler car was owned by Dr. Tom
Garrett of Byers, Okla. and based out of Oklahoma City, the first Oklahoma car to compete
with the WoO on a regular basis. Crew chief Clark Drake, from LA had great vision for a
kid of 18, made the complete WoO tour with us and probably was responsible for the 5th
place finish in the season standings with the World Of Outlaw series. Clark later went on
to be the man behind Sammy Swindell's operation and later tried driving in the LA area and
to date runs a successful manufacturing business in the LA area, currently is also a crew
chief for an IRL Indy car team. |
