Shane & the "Dude" at the Kansas
Speedway
|
Missouri's Danny the "Dude"
Lasoski, and Oklahoma City's Shane Carson were at the Kansas Speedway over the weekend
driving Winston Cup style stock cars for the Richard Petty Driving Experience. Carson one
of the regular drivers for Petty was working with the "Dude" in an effort for
him to gain super speedway experience for the upcoming IROC schedule that runs events
around the country. Lasoski, the 2001 Pennzoil World Of Outlaw Sprint Car series Champion ran a
very respectable 6th in the IROC opener at the Daytona Speedway in Feb. but realized the
need for more track time at the paved ovals in the stock cars. KC has a lot of
similarities to the other 1.5 mile facilities where he will be competing and will try to
work in a few days next week at Indy, another stop for the series.
Carson, now driving full time for the Richard Petty Driving Experience is president of
Mar-Car Inc. which promotes World Of Outlaw Sprint events at the Fairgrounds Speedway in
Oklahoma City where the Outlaws will make their annual stop June 18th for the Bud Carson
Memorial. Shane was inducted into the Knoxville Sprint Car Racing Hall Of Fame in 2001
The Petty group runs about 40 different speedways around the country year
around. |

1979 - this is how it was done at the Iowa State
Fairgrounds for qualifying, it was kind of a ballancing act with this car, no wing to hold
you down, the car didn't weigh anything. It would bite you if you were not paying
attention.
This is the car I sat on the front row with for the 79 Knoxville Nationals, we thought it
was ours to win, turned out to be mine to lose though. We chose to run a harder tire and
run the top groove the line that was always preferred at Knoxville, seems as though nobody
told Ronnie Shuman, he found the bottom and before we could react he was gone....thats
sprint car racin. |

1978 - This was my first race for Des Moines,
Iowa's Bob Trostle in the 20 car, Lake City, Florida, this is the same car that Doug
Wolfgang drove to 40 + wins in the 77 season. 78 was a good season for me, I moved to
Iowa, winning over 20 features, the Knoxville season championship, the NSCA championship
and rookie of the year honors at both places.
Running behind me is the 18 car that C.K. Spurlock owned, then driven by Charlie Swartz. I
drove the same 18 car for C.K. the spring races in Florida 1979. He then formed the
Gambler Chassis Co. based out of his home town of Hendersonville, TN. |

1977 - This Dewey, Okla. race promoted by John
Kalb from Tulsa, the Firestone racing tire dealer was won by Rick Ferkel, but I had just
moved into the Nance sprinter from my 6 cylinder modified and chased Rick for 50 laps for
a 2nd place finish. It got me a full time ride with Laverne Nance from Wichita and got me
the exposure I needed to get going with a full time sprint car ride. |
