Visit Page 3 for Dave Mayle's photos of motorcycles in Vietnam ><><><><><>< This week's rides: Thursday, July 9th - Del City ><><><><><>< If you are interested in vintage motorcycles, read all of this because this could benefit all of us. Vintage MX racing has come to Oklahoma. There is a new vintage style MX track located near Seminole. The track is much like the MX tracks of the 60's and early 70's, before Supercross tracks were born. No monster jumps, there are a few table tops, but no real jumps. The track was designed for old MX bikes with their lack of suspension and weaker frames. Along with MX racing the track is hosting vintage bike swap meets and riders of vintage bikes of all types and brands are encouraged to attend. The organizers would be thrilled to see you ride up on your vintage street bike or trailer it to spectate. The swap meet is open to all vintage bikes. Their first meet and ride is Sunday, January 25th at 12:00 PM at the Lucky 13 MX Race Park. The park directions: go 2 miles south of Seminole on Hwy 99 to Hwy 59, then east 1 mile to NS3565 RD., go back south 1/4 mile, track is on the west side. The first race date is Sunday, February 22nd. Gates open at 8:00 AM, practice at 9:00 Am and races at 10:30 AM. For more info contact Jim Simon - 405.275.4937 You can also visit their website: The guys putting this on are all about vintage, whether it be dirt bikes or street bikes, they just want to support the vintage bike hobby. Some comments on restoring an old bike by my friend Ellis Holman. Folks, I've done a lot of restorations over the years but I never kept meticulous records until I did a Japanese Domestic Market (JDM) CL90. The CL90 looks a lot like the CL100 we got here in the US, but has some detail differences like the cast iron cylinder. On
this one I kept records of how much everything costs. Boy! was I surprised!. Initial
cost of bike
$500.00 Total for all Parts and Hardware $8,424.99 Yep... that's right! $8,424.99 for a factory correct, CL90 restore! In some cases individual parts may be more than the retail. Some parts were NLA so I had to get them elsewhere and the prices I got charged were much above retail in some cases, in others below. In the end it averages out. So next time you're out at a show drooling over that perfect restoration and the guy tells you he's got a mint in it, chances are he does. Ellis Thinking of getting your first bike or just coming back to motorcycle riding? We highly reccommend you take a MSF rider training course or a similar rider course.
