such as his were illegal in the 750 class. Thanks to Gary Hollars for the info. |

Barry Diffendaffer driving an early micro sprint
at his own track Calgary Creek Raceway in Rocky, Oklahoma. Barry was the creator of
the micro sprint. The cars started life as Manco Dingo Karts and Barry and his
friends kept tinkering with them and eventually added cages and bodies to the little
cars. They raced at Southwest Speeday - Carnegie, OK; Dutton's Speedway - Fort Cobb
- OK, Calgary Creek Raceway - Rocky, OK. Specail events were also held at Black
Widow Speedway - Lexington, OK; Lawton Speedway - Lawton, OK; indoors at the Fairgrounds
Arena in Oklahoma City and indoors at Fairgrounds in Chickasha, OK. I think this was taken
between 1983 and 1985. |

1986 - The Auto Sports Center - Racers Corner
micro sprint driven by 12 year old Erick Sanderson. The Chassis was built by Barry
Diffendaffer, the body paint was by Jim Stewart, chassis modifications & chassis paint
by D.E. Suggs, lettering by Jim Chesnut, the hood & side panels were formed by Richard
Harvey, black velour upholstery by Anne Sanderson, machine work by Broadway Machine,
engine by Terry Sanderson. The engine ran on methanol alcohol through a Tilitson
314a carburetor mounted to a handmade aluminum adapter to mount to the 8 hp Briggs &
Stratton block or we used a steel tubing manifold built by Barry Diffendaffer.
The high lift cam was a one off built in my garage with a torch, a file and a
dial indicator and featured roller bearings on each end of the camshaft. We used an
experimental adjustable expansion chamber custom built for us. The right rear wheel
was a Gilliam, the left rear a Keizer, the front wheels were by Van-K. All 4 tires
were by Goodyear, right rear tire was a turf tire and the left rear tire was a special
golf cart tire with out tread but with extra rubber for grooving, both tires had racing
rubber compounds, the local Goodyear industrial tire dealer special ordered these tire for
me. This is information I never shared with anyone while we were racing. |
